Stretching the Antennae

I walked into work this morning, a little tired and sweaty, but that’s what you get for walking 25 blocks in the city with long sleeves in 92 degree weather.

When I arrived at the desk, I proceeded to finish my M-80 (The drink, not the explosive) and begin my morning routine of catching up on feeds from last night. ProBlogger was hosting a social media “love-in”, where commenters could leave full lists of their social media profiles and it would give bloggers and social media fanatics alike a chance to connect and reach beyond their normal circle of influence.

I dropped a message in there myself, and have (by noon) made a handful of friends on sites I normally don’t use because I don’t know anyone who uses them such as Plurk (Never really used it) or Twitter (Used it to spy on industry insiders, mostly, lol). Other sites, such as StumbleUpon and Digg are both very useful to connect within, because they can drive traffic to your site and allow you to quickly see the interests of those connected to you. This creates a place for suggestions, Q&A, greater post exposure, and most of all, feedback. Being able to shoot a question out to a group of connected people allows for relatively unbiased responses from a myriad of perspectives. From a web development stand point, this lets me shoot down bad ideas before I get too deep into them, such as a web application that requires a 1280×1024 resolution, it just isn’t popular enough yet (with non-computer-savvy people) and people will tell you exactly that.

In any case, I’d like to take the time to post links to the social media sites I’m currently active in, so here goes:

Link-Sharing:
Digg
StumbleUpon
Del.icio.us
Micro blogging:
Plurk
Twitter
Professional:
LinkedIn
Aggregation/Syndication Tool:
FriendFeed

If you are a member of any of the above networks, add me as a friend! If you’re not a member of them, check them out, there’s a ton of interesting information between the link sharing and Q&A’s that are posted.

That’s it! If you’re not already subscribed to the feed, do it here!
